Abstract

SANCHEZ, Sandra Inés. The domestic as merchandise and the projectual. Conceptions on sociability, intimacy, nature and community in Buenos Aires since the 1930s. An. Inst. Arte Am. Investig. Estét. Mario J. Buschiazzo [online]. 2023, vol.53, n.2, e007. ISSN 2362-2024.

This essay proposes the analysis of the commodification processes of the domestic in Buenos Aires from a historical perspective. It inquires the background that marked the commercial trends that characterized the domestic in each historical scenario, its relationship with disciplinary and professional conceptions and the manipulation of the concepts of sociability, intimacy, nature and community that they entail. Also, the written and iconographic discourses that emerge from the specialized and mass media (brochures, publications, architecture supplements of newspapers and the real estate market, real estate sites, developers and architecture studios) will be analyzed.

Keywords : real estate market; domestic space; urban housing; suburban housing; contemporary housing; Argentina; 1930 to the present.
