Abstract

ESPINOSA ORTIZ, Fabricio. Imaginaries of the house and the quality of life in urban research from Mexico (end of the 20th century - beginning of the 21st century). An. Inst. Arte Am. Investig. Estét. Mario J. Buschiazzo [online]. 2023, vol.53, n.2, e010. ISSN 2362-2024.

This article’s primary goal is to contribute to understand the imaginary of the house, an imaginary in continuous construction forged in the idea that everyone needs a roof to achieve the quality of life desired. Therefore, in the first part of the text the concept of “house” is analyzed and related to correlated concepts, such as “house” and “home”. Then, the imaginaries of the house and the quality of life are questioned in the context of the author’s urban research experience, both in Mexican and worldwide cities. Finally, the imaginary of the house is studied as a primary object of consumption, essential to achieve the desired quality of life. The article will demonstrate that the quality of life is not attained just by acquiring a house, but by assessing the negative and positive experiences when inhabiting it in everyday life.

Keywords : imaginaries; house; quality of life; home; urban research.; Mexico; end of 20th and beginning of 21st Centuries.
