Abstract

VOSNE MARTINS, Ana Paula. O associativismo feminino católico e a proteção às jovens trabalhadoras na cidade do Rio de Janeiro na década de 1920: a Associação das Senhoras Brasileiras e a liderança de Stella de Faro (1888-1972). Av. Cesor [online]. 2022, vol.19, n.27, pp.8-8. ISSN 1514-3899.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.35305/ac.v19i27.1695.

This article discusses the social catholic action towards young female laborers in the European and Brazilian contexts of the end of the 19th and begining of the 20th centuries. The presence of young female laborers pursuing better jobs and wages both in european cities and in the city of Rio de Janeiro encouraged the local clergy and catholic women to organize actions of welfare and professional education for those. This article seeks to understand the meaning of female labor for the catholic female leadership as well as the scope of its actions, with the purpose of demonstrating the process of adaptation of conservatism to changes in culture, economics and gender norms.

Keywords : female associativism; conservatism; catholicism; labor.
