Abstract

MARTINEZ ALMUDEVAR, Paula. Transformaciones espaciales de un nuevo espectáculo: el caso de LR1 Radio El Mundo en la ciudad de Buenos Aires. Década de 1930. Av. Cesor [online]. 2023, vol.20, n.28, pp.4-4. ISSN 1514-3899.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.35305/ac.v20i28.1808.

Throughout the 1930s, contemporaries witnessed various transformations in Buenos Aires radio. The increase in the number of hours of transmission of the stations was accompanied by a multiplicity of new radio listeners. But perhaps the biggest change —linked to the constant growth of the media— was the moving of several of them to buildings near the center of Buenos Aires, seeking to be part of the "leisure cartography" of the city. In this context, the construction of a building specially designed to house a radio began: the one in Maipú 555 —today Radio Nacional— where LR1 Radio El Mundo would be installed.

This work seeks to recover the centrality of space in historical processes and to analyze the changes in the spatiality of Buenos Aires radio buildings during the 1930s, mainly those concerning the LR1 Radio El Mundo station. Changes in the operation of radio stations, their motivations and their impact on the process of "spectacularization" of radio, on working experiences of radio workers and on the appearance of the public are analyzed.
