Abstract

SCHETSCHE, Christian et al. Initial Argentine validation of the Work-Family Conflict and Family-Work Conflict Scales. Rev. psicodebate: psicol. cult. soc. [online]. 2022, vol.22, n.2, pp.18-31.  Epub Dec 01, 2022. ISSN 2451-6600.  http://dx.doi.org/10.18682/pd.v22i2.4995.

Work and family are important sources of happiness and, simultaneously, potential sources of conflict. Even though, in recent decades, not only has the proportion of families with double incomes increased, but also job stress, there are no psychometric instruments in Latin American to assess labor conflicts that influence the family environment and vice versa. Due to this, the aim of the present study was to the translate and validate the Work-Family Conflict and Family-Work Conflict Scales. The sample (N = 524) was collected online and the results of the confirmatory factor analysis showed adequate psychometric properties of the instrument χ2(30) = 76.719, p < .001, RMSEA = .060, 90%CI = .044 - .077, SRMR = .040, CFI = .990, TLI = .985. The measurement invariance analysis showed that the instrument evaluates, regardless of the gender of the person who answers its questions, the same construct. Convergent validity analysis showed significant associations with depression and anxiety. It is concluded that the validation of the Work-Family Conflict and Family-Work Conflict Scales was carried out successfully, so its translated version can be used in the Spanish-speaking area.

Keywords : work-family conflict; family-work conflict; confirmatory factor analysis; measurement invariance; convergent validity.
