Abstract
RESETT, Santiago and GONZALEZ - CAINO, Pablo Christian. Dark personality, empathy and externalizing problems in Argentinean adults. Rev. psicodebate: psicol. cult. soc. [online]. 2024, vol.24, n.1, pp.7-20. Epub June 01, 2024. ISSN 2451-6600. http://dx.doi.org/10.18682/pd.v24i1.9229.
The dark personality is an important construct. In recent times, several models have been proposed in this regard, one of the most advanced is the D70, which understands it as a g factor of intelligence. Thus, the present study is the first in Spanish to use a questionnaire in this regard. The objectives of the present work were to evaluate the Cronbach alphas of the nine subscales, describe the D70 scores, determine if gender and age introduced differences, and test a structural model to predict dark personality based on empathy and behavior problems. An intentional sample of 565 adults aged 18 to 58 years, with a mean age of 25.31 (SD = 9.38). Regarding gender, 34% were male and 66% female. 53% had a job. 40% resided in CABA, 50% in GBA and 10% in Paraná, Entre Ríos, Argentina. Cronbach's alphas ranged from .54 to .81. Age introduced differences and gender. An adequate fit was found for a structural model to predict behavior problems X 2 (74) = 224.60, p <.001, CFI = .96, TLI = .94, RMSEA = .06, with empathy scores and D70 scores being significant. In the discussion, the implications of these findings are analyzed.
