Abstract

DAICH, Deborah  and  VARELA, Cecilia. Between the fight against human traffiking and the criminalization of sexual work. Delito soc. [online]. 2014, vol.23, n.38, pp.63-86. ISSN 0328-0101.

In this paper we aim to study the forms of governance of prostitution in the city of Buenos Aires given the international situation of trafficking combat campaigns that outlines current local policies. In the global context of anti-human trafficking campaigns and transnational migrations, the antitrafficking discourse has become a privileged language to canalize a range of social anxieties and a powerful discourse that has permeated governmental agencies, generating a new set of public policies and laws. We propose to analyze the implementation of these policies from an ethnographic approach, taking the City of Buenos Aires as a case study. Our main argument is that the rescue logic has produced a state of exception in the commercial sex market through the reactivation of police power.

Keywords : Governance of prostitution; Sex market; State of exception.
