Abstract

CID FERREIRA, Lucía. Approaches to factors that explain variations of victimization between urban areas of San Miguel de Tucuman. Delito soc. [online]. 2014, vol.23, n.38, pp.89-116. ISSN 0328-0101.

The paper presents the main results achieved in the framework of the research project about urban crime and society. It sought to determine the factors that help to explain variations in the levels of victimization in urban areas of the city of San Miguel de Tucumán, seeking to answer questions left open by previous research. A household survey of 800 cases performed in this city in 2005 found a high variability in levels of victimization in areas of a similar level of social vulnerability, which is why we asked what other factors not included in the indicator of social vulnerability, explained the variability in levels of victimization. Proposed issue facing this project, for which a new survey in eight selected areas of the city was designed. 50 interviews in each area (400 in total) were performed in 2008. The comparative analysis showed, among other things, that in the context of poverty, the level of social vulnerability of households remains relevant in explaining differences in levels of victimization.
