Abstract

FERRECCIO, Vanina. The body space as a space for suspicion: the relatives of detainees from the body requisition. Delito soc. [online]. 2015, vol.24, n.39, pp.50-71. ISSN 0328-0101.

This paper presents the results of an ethnographic fieldwork conducted with relatives of inmates from two prisons in the city of Santa Fe, Argentina. It explores the prison tracks on this relatives that experience the detention in an "indirect" mode. This is an unexplored field because theorist have mostly focus on the population directly affected by imprisonment. Family experiences are analyzed as a secondary prisonization process. Therefore, this paper focus on two main aspects: in one hand the identification of practices related to the access -mainly on body examination during visit entry to prison- and stay of the family during visiting period, and on the other hand attempts by family for neutralizing the social cost -in terms of degradation, humiliation and stigmatization- that such practices represents.
