Abstract

COZZI, Eugenia. Of juntas, clanes and broncas: Regulations of lethal violence between young people in two suburbs of Santa Fe city. Delito soc. [online]. 2015, vol.24, n.39, pp.72-102. ISSN 0328-0101.

This paper describes and analyses regulations of lethal violence in two suburbs of Santa Fe city. In these suburbs there is a high concentration of murders and most of the victims and murderers are young boys, residents in these suburbs. The involvement of these boys in situations of lethal violence is linked to some collective and attractive ways to build identity and have prestige. However, this violence appears to be highly regulated by an extended and complex system of codes or rules which evidence certain legitimacy criteria. These codes or rules allow them to establish where, how, when, between or against whom the deployment of lethal violence "may or must" be carried out. In this work I analyse and give a full description of these codes or rules.

Keywords : Lethal violence; Young people; Popular sectors; Regulations.
