This paper is part of a larger-scale research endeavor on certain aspects of prison life in Argentina during the first half of the 20th century which have been  hardly  addressed by legal and social historiographers.  Here we will analyze two newspapers edited  by the Dirección General de Institutos Penales (Prison Facilities General Office) to be read by the prison population: El Domingo, published between 1938 and 1947, and Mañana, published  between  1947  and  1955. What was the relationship between these publications and the government administrations at the time? What was their position regarding left-wing ideologies? Is it possible to trace an editorial line? How involved were inmates in developing the paper? Were there any differences between El Domingo and Mañana? Such are the questions we aim to answer, among others, in this first exploratory work.
