Abstract

ALBARRAN, Fernando Vicente. Neither Jekyll nor Hyde: The ambivalent nature of Madrid modernization process (1900-1936). Estud. hist. Esp. [online]. 2016, vol.18, n.1, pp.00-00. ISSN 2469-0961.

Modernity implied a decisive transformation of urban societies during the first third of the twentieth century. Madrid was a center of reference for assessing the impact of the complex and unstable process of change and resistance in Spain. Railway, cinema and urban space are analyzed as symbolic elements of a type of modernization with many lights and shadows. Several documentary sources are used to perform it.

Keywords : Madrid; Modernity; Cinema; Railway; Social imaginary.
