Abstract

CECHIN, Alícia; CHARRIS, Carlos A.  and  APARECIDA SILVA, Fernanda. APRENDENDO A EXPORTAR COM OS VIZINHOS: O EFEITO DO TRANSBORDAMENTO DE INFORMAÇÕES ENTRE OS PAÍSES DA AMÉRICA DO SUL,. Estud. econ. [online]. 2022, vol.39, n.79, pp.71-102. ISSN 2525-1295.

This paper aimed to study how the learning of neighboring countries about exports affects the decision to enter new exporters in the foreign market. The main contribution is to analyze learning about the export of different products to different countries, considering all export destinations of selected countries in South America, in the period 2000 to 2018. A Linear Probability Model and a set of fixed effects were used in order to control for unobserved determinants of export dynamics. We find that the probability of both entry and survival to a new market increase with the presence of neighboring countries that serve that same market.
