Abstract

DA FROTA, Marisa Guilherme et al. O PERFIL DOS MOONLIGHTERS NO MERCADO DE TRABALHO BRASILEIRO: UMA ANÁLISE PARA OS MEIOS RURAL E URBANO. Estud. econ. [online]. 2023, vol.40, n.81, pp.69-99. ISSN 2525-1295.

This work measured the factors that affect labor supply in the job market for moonlighters (those workers who seek additional compensation with another job). In addition, it analyzed the existence of wage discrimination, with an emphasis on gender differences, using data from the 2010 Census in Brazil. The sample is composed of non-employed and employed individuals with one or more jobs. The Biprobit model was used to estimate the probability of labor market participation. It has been observed that searching for another employment in the job market requires high levels of education. Wage decomposition was performed by the Oaxaca-Blinder method (1973), and results suggest the presence of discriminatory behavior towards women, even if they have higher levels of education than men do.

Keywords : job market; moonlighters; Biprobit model; Oaxaca-Blinder decomposition.
