Abstract

OSTUNI, Josefina. The traces of those who passed traveled by the Institute of Geography. Bol. estud. geogr. [online]. 2022, n.118, pp.97-116.  Epub July 04, 2023. ISSN 2525-1813.  http://dx.doi.org/10.48162/rev.40.021.

Rescuing and reflecting on the traces that mark the path traveled by the academics of the Martín Pérez Institute of Geography, UNCUYO, from its inception until 2000 is an arduous, but necessary, task. In this case, it focuses on geographic research.

The research work involves defining the problem to be investigated, from which theoretical frameworks it will be addressed, and with what methodology.

The path followed by geographic research at the Martín Pérez Institute can be conceived in three stages: The first, “from uncertainty to consolidation”; the second: is "in search of scientific rigor" and the third stage: "The projection, openness to new approaches".

The first stage is characterized by two moments that are related to the origin of the Institute of Geography, the influx of professionals from physical-natural disciplines, and the consolidation from the French influence and regional geography.

The second stage is linked to the emergence of locational Geography and the rise that it had at UNCUYO, becoming a center of dispersion of studies from this perspective. Finally, the third stage corresponds to the opening towards the geography of behavior and the beginning of social studies through the radical current of geography.

Keywords : History of geography; research; geographical approaches.
