Abstract

MOURELO, Elva López  and  PEREYRA, Francisca. The labor conditions of the delivery sector through digital platforms in Buenos Aires City. A quali-quantitative approach. Estud. trab. [online]. 2020, n.60, pp.56-91. ISSN 0327-5744.

In Argentina, the landing of the platform economy constitutes a recent phenomenon that has experienced an accelerated growth in recent years. One of the most visible activities within this expanding sector -both for the constant circulation of its workers in the public space and for their participation in a series of labor conflicts reflected by the press- has been the delivery of products via mobile applications. This article aims at examining the working conditions of this activity based on an analysis that combines quantitative and qualitative data. The paper is structured around a series of thematic axes such as workers’ sociodemographic characteristics; the trajectories and motivations that lead to this activity; the modality of entry and work in these platforms; the mechanisms of control and sanction used by the platforms; the labor conditions in the sector and the workers’ perspectives around the experiences of labor claims and union organization.

Keywords : Platform economy; Delivery workers; Precarious work; Argentina..
