Abstract

PAYO ESPER, Mariel. Notes on the internal dynamics of the General Confederation of Labor. Union building strategies of unification and rupture during post-convertibility in Argentina (2002-2012). Estud. trab. [online]. 2020, n.60, pp.128-152. ISSN 0327-5744.

The article analyzes the internal dynamics of the General Confederation of Labor in the period 2002-2012, using the category union building strategies to study the practices of its different internal groups as producers of symbolic systems. The strategies are analyzed based on personal interviews, speeches and public appearances around a set of events: the end of the crisis of 2001, the reunification of the Central in 2004 with the consequent emergence of a new leadership team, the confrontation between the government and the agrarian entities in 2008, the conflicts of framing and the ruptures of the Central. During the period studied, the internal nucleations of the plant, configured in the 1990s -the Argentine Workers Movement, fat and independent- persisted as general guides of union practices, but they were profoundly transformed. The old neoparticipationist and combative strategies were abandoned, and two new ones emerged in their place, which we call “moyanista” and institutional unionism.
