Abstract

DEL AGUILA, Álvaro  and  NEIMAN, Guillermo. From land to concrete. The labor insertion of Paraguayan migrants of rural origin in the construction sector of the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires. Estud. trab. [online]. 2021, n.61, pp.64-89. ISSN 0327-5744.

This article aims to examine the trajectories and working conditions of the Paraguayan rural workers who are employed in the construction industry of the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires. The implementation in 2018 of a survey that reached 322 workers in 82 construction sites made it possible to identify their rural origin and to analyze access and working conditions of this group of workers. With the purpose of understanding the dynamics of labor insertion in the sector by this group of workers, the article analyzes the data arising from two axes of interest: the beginning of their working career (in general and in construction industry) and their current job in the construction sector. Additionally, in order to reveal whether it is a group with a particular condition due to the fact of moving from rural areas, comparisons are made with two other groups: local workers and Paraguayans of urban origin.

Keywords : Construction industry rural workers; Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area; Inmigration.
