Abstract

MASSANO, Juan Pedro  and  CAPPANNINI, Andrés. Conflict and social structure. Some theoretical reflections from a case study: the 1985-1986 conflict between CGT vs. medical corporation. Estud. trab. [online]. 2023, n.65, pp.118-144. ISSN 0327-5744.

The 1980’s economic crisis implied a process of impoverishment of doctors with a consequent increase in conflict in the sector. In December 1985, medical conflicts of various kinds broke out. On the one hand, salaried doctors working in public hospitals protested their wages and working conditions. On the other hand, the Medical Confederation of the Argentine Republic decided to denounce the agreements with social security and unilaterally charge a bonus to all beneficiary patients, which opened a strong conflict with the General Confederation of Labor. Our interest in this conflict, then, lies in the possibility of seeing in the development of a process of struggle the tensions between the representations of the working class and contradictory class positions.

Keywords : Social structure; Social conflict; Medical corporation; Labor movement.
