Abstract

VELA BERMEJO, Juan. La metáfora evaluativa al servicio del humor en la interacción oral y coloquial. RASAL lingüíst. [online]. 2022, vol.2022, n.1, pp.89-110. ISSN 2618-3455.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.56683/rs221053.

The objective of this article is to discuss metaphor as a linguistic resource capable of transmitting evaluative and humorous content in oral and colloquial discourse. In such interactions, emotions play a fundamental role as they collect the thoughts and assessments of the speaker towards other individuals or entities, which, to a greater or lesser extent, makes the speaker’s attitude evident and may lead to various reactions on the part of the other partners. From the analysis of various conversational fragments, we will try to demonstrate how metaphor –together with other phenomena such as irony or politeness– can enhance humor in an interaction. In addition, we show metaphor does not always have a negative, sarcastic or mocking effect, but rather it may also be used in a positive way to strengthen the links between the interlocutors or, even, for conveying "self-humor" or affective processes.

Keywords : metaphor; evaluation; humor; orality; colloquial language.
