A complete vestibular and oculomotor assessment is key to differentiate between peripheral and central causes of acute vertigo. Physical therapists must be trained to perform a proper assessment.

The objective of this study is to describe the procedure and interpretation of the most relevant physical assessment tools, with and without visual fixation, to reach a differential diagnosis in patients attending for physiotherapy consultation.
