Abstract
PERILLI, Carmen. Criticism and colonialism in Latin America. Recial [online]. 2022, vol.13, n.22, pp.14-33. Epub Dec 08, 2022. ISSN 2718-658X. http://dx.doi.org/10.53971/2718.658x.v13.n22.39340.
Critical production in Latin America begins during the colonial centuries and exhibits signs that will characterize national literatures. It demands its space within western discourse while voraciously appropriating the European legacy. This article focuses on two contributions to Latin American literary theory: Discurso en loor de la poesía by Peruvian anonymous and Apologético a Don Luis de Góngora by Juan de Espinosa Medrano. The article is focused on the inflections of the creole discourse and the textual operations that this discourse builds from a distance and the permanent “here-there”. The creoles texts draw on paper a subordinate situation in space and the hierarchy of the imaginary. They are addressed to a distant recipient and try to legitimize themselves; as if the creoles were resisting with all their might to the second place reserved for them. This is the case of our first "critics" concerned about affiliations and attentive to enroll themselves in the metropolitan academy.
