Abstract
GARCIA-BEDOYA M., Carlos. Another modernity is possible: Arguedas and Andean heterogeneity. Recial [online]. 2022, vol.13, n.22, pp.80-90. Epub Dec 08, 2022. ISSN 2718-658X. http://dx.doi.org/10.53971/2718.658x.v13.n22.39348.
José María Arguedas’ literary oeuvre is usually studied as part of the Indigenist movement. This means, as Antonio Cornejo Polar has explained, a relationship with a rural Andean referent. However, several of his works, and notoriously his posthumous novel El zorro de arriba y el zorro de abajo, show a displacement to urban settings, thus expressing a central process in Peruvian society, the trajectory of the migrant subject. Arguedas’ oeuvre does not represent an archaic utopia (as Vargas Llosa supposed), on the contrary, it implies a complex dialogue with Modernity.
Keywords : Modernity; José María Arguedas; indigenism; migration.
