Abstract
PUPPO, María Lucía. On the Art of Not Belonging: the Post-exile Experience in Magali Alabau's We have Arrived at Ilión. Recial [online]. 2023, vol.14, n.23, pp.34-46. Epub June 30, 2023. ISSN 2718-658X. http://dx.doi.org/10.53971/2718.658x.v14.n23.41363.
In the poetry book We have arrived at Ilión (1992), Magali Alabau (Cienfuegos, 1945) recounts the journey back to Havana twenty years after relocating to the United States. Reissued in 2013 by Editorial Betania in Madrid, the text remains relevant as a contemporary reflection on the Cuban diaspora. This paper offers a reading of the poem in the context of the concept of post-exile as developed by Alexis Nouss (2015), incorporating insights from the social sciences within the framework of comparative literature. Firstly, we examine the various strategies employed to depict the city in a ghostly manner, where spatial and mythological references intersect, emphasizing the void left by the absent. In adittion, we analyze key factors that shape the poetic speaker's identity as a post-exile subject in Alabau's long poem.
