Abstract

LEAL DEL OJO DE LA CRUZ, Yaneli. The Landscape of the Port: A Repository of Havana's History. Recial [online]. 2023, vol.14, n.23, pp.147-176.  Epub June 30, 2023. ISSN 2718-658X.  http://dx.doi.org/10.53971/2718.658x.v14.n23.41700.

This paper aims to provide a heritage assessment of the Havana port from a landscape perspective, recognizing it as a historical landscape that holds significant meanings to the city. Understanding the cultural heritage of the bay and the historical connections it shares with the city and society is crucial for nurturing affective feelings and preserving the essence of the place. Therefore, a comprehensive heritage valuation is necessary, taking into account a systemic approach that analyzes the historical processes, physical context, tangible and intangible manifestations, their interrelationships with the city, and their projection onto the world stage. Theoretical and empirical methods of qualitative analysis were employed in this article, aligning with standard landscape research practices, including on-site observation and the analysis of documents and images.

Keywords : landscape; port; Havana; cultural heritage; interpretation.
