Abstract
BALLENT, Sara C.. Gondwaninc affinities of the Jurassic andLower Cretaceous marine ostracods (Crustacea) from the Neuquén Basin, Argentina. Rev. Asoc. Geol. Argent. [online]. 2009, vol.65, n.2, pp.311-321. ISSN 0004-4822.
Records of the Mesozoic marine Cytheroidea ParadoxorhynchaChapman, Rostrocytheridea Dingle, Majungaella Grékoff, "Sondagella"Dingle and species of Procytherura Whatley and EucytheruraMüller, which are strictly austral in their distribution, have proved to beuseful tools in the paleogeographical reconstructions related with the Gondwanabreakup. The coeval occurrence of the genus Paradoxorhyncha Chapman inwestern Australia, southwestern Madagascar and western Argentina indicates thatit migrated along the southern shores of Gondwana during the early Bajocian. Upto the present, the record of Paradoxorhyncha constitutes the earliestgondwanine affinity in Argentina. In the early Cretaceous, the coeval recordsof some especies of Rostrocytheridea, Procytherura y "Sondagella"indicate close links with South Africa supporting the existence of a southernGondwana seaway.
