Juan Valentin was a German geologist that arrived to Argentina in 1894 to join the staff members of the Museum of La Plata and the National Museum of Buenos Aires. His work initially took him to explore the Buenos Aires ranges, and then those of Crdoba, San Luis, Salta and Jujuy. He joined the Argentine Scientific Society, assuming the edition of the Annals. His activities and the achieved knowledge in the field led him to prepare a lengthy article describing the geology of the Argentina, which was added to the second edition of the Argentine National Census. This work is considered an important synthesis of the geology of the country. He started working in Patagonia, increasing the knowledge of regional stratigraphy. In 1897 he conducted works in the Chubut River valley and Cabo Raso area. Revising outcrops in the area of Aguada de Reyes, he had a fatal accident while carrying its pockets full of fossils. He was employed a little over two years in Argentina, and had just turned 30 years old. His body rest in peace in Rawson.
