Abstract
PERUCCA, Laura P; LARA, Gabriela and VARGAS, Nicolás. New evidence of Quaternary tectonic activity in the Matagusanos-Zonda-Acequión Depression, San Juan Province. Rev. Asoc. Geol. Argent. [online]. 2012, vol.69, n.1. ISSN 0004-4822.
In this work, some neotectonic features are recognized and described at the depression located between San Juan and La Flecha rivers, Zonda-Maradona valley. Several fault traces cutting and displacing Paleozoic and Neogene rocks and Quaternary deposits were identified, located in the interaction zone of two morphostructural fronts trending N-S with opposite vergence: The west-verging Central Precordillera (thin skinned thrust belt), and the east-verging Eastern Precordillera (thick skinned belt). Quaternary deformation recognized in the eastern piedmont of cordon de Las Osamentas have west vergence and those located in the western piedmont of the Sierra Chica de Zonda have west vergence, making evident that both system are still active.
