Abstract

VILLALBA, Diego  and  SAGRIPANT, Guillermo L. Análisis morfológico de escarpas asociadas a una falla de intraplaca con actividad cuaternaria: falla Las lagunas, Córdoba. Rev. Asoc. Geol. Argent. [online]. 2014, vol.71, n.1, pp.82-91. ISSN 0004-4822.

The objective of this contribution is, through the quantitative analysis of the morphology of fault scarps developed on Quaternary sediments, to estimate the age of prehistoric and historic reactivations of the Las Lagunas fault. The study area is located to the SW of Rio Cuarto Department, piedmont sector of the Sierra de Comechingones between the towns of Achiras and Sampacho, 33° 18' S and 64° 49' W, central Argentina. Quantitative morphologic analysis was performed by obtaining detailed topographic profiles transverse to the trace of the structure and application of regression curves to determine their ages. This allowed interpreting the evidence of mechanical deformation, surface rupture corresponding to at least four strong earthquakes associated with this fault that occurred during the last 10 ka. With this data we created a characteristic approximation curve for surface ruptures related to this failure, with ages younger or equal to 100 years.
