Abstract

The del Agua river basin its located on the southern portion of the sierra del Tontal, in Sarmiento department of San Juan province. In the present research, several morphometric characteristics of the basin are analyzed and some basic parameters (area, perimeter, length, altitude and slope of the main channel, etc.) are calculated. The results suggest that the hydrological response of the basin are determined by steep slopes and steep channels in the mountain area, a 7 order drainage network, mean bifurcation relationship of 5,14 and high torrentiality that in case of exceptional rainfalls, makes it a potentially dangerous area with high levels of destruction. These studies are very useful for watershed management in areas where there are no weather stations.
