Abstract

BARALDO, Natalia. Labor movement and education. Meanings and strategies around Secondary Education Centers. Argentina 1970-1974.Movimento operário e educado. Sentidos e estrategias em torno aos Centros Educativos de Ensino Medio. Argentina (1970-1974). Trab. soc. [online]. 2020, vol.21, n.34, pp.101-110. ISSN 1514-6871.

This article deals with Secondary Education Centers (CENS) during the 1970-1974 period, from the point of view of the union organizations that opened Centers in agreement with the National Direction of Adult Education (DINEA). After an initial quantitative approach, it analyzes the participation of workers in this public policy, identifying different dimensions of the problem such as: participation in the design of de general proposal of CENS and the meaning assigned bay the workers to education/training, briefly reviewing two cases: the Light and Force Union of City of Buenos Aires and the Mendoza Banking Association. We also consider whether they include union issues (or topics deemed relevant to political training) in the curricular proposal. Finally, we analyze whether the opening of CENS can be associated with any tendency of the labor movement in particular; that is, we inquire into the relationship between CENS and workers’ strategies. The overall research design was socio-historical and followed a qualitative approach that used oral and documentary sources. The perspectives we share in this article rely mostly on the latter, with documentary analysis being the main methodological strategy.
