Abstract
GARAY, Luis G. and MARTINEZ, Guillermo. A corpse without a grave, a saint without a name: elaboration of the past, memory and resistance in Argentina northwestern countryside. Trab. soc. [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.39, pp.11-24. Epub July 01, 2022. ISSN 1514-6871.
This article proposes a reflection on the ways of elaborating the past. The ways studied originated in the countryside of northwestern Argentina, and were linked to the forced disappearance of people during State terrorism. This article is based on the thesis that the research of the ways of elaboration of the past helps to comprehend State terrorism. It shows how State terrorism has used contexts of production of oblivion to consolidate its technologies of power since colonial times. This seeks to denature the current modes of reproduction of that historical domination. These ways exceed the chronological limits of the material execution of State terrorism. This article deals with the appearance of corpse of Francisco Toconás in the countryside of Santiago del Estero province. It analyzes the symbolic forms and expressions of popular culture and religiosity that served to give a sense of community to the deaths caused by State terrorism. Based on this analysis, it distinguishes the characteristics of memories of resistance, originated in contexts of oblivion production, in comparison with memories originated in an age of judicial and democratic reparation.
