Abstract

DE PAZ TRUEBA, Yolanda. Care institutions, childhood and labour: Reflections from a school for housing children in the Center of theprovince of Buenos Aires at the beginning of the 20th century. Andes [online]. 2017, vol.28, n.1, pp.00-00. ISSN 1668-8090.

Until the early twentieth century private sectors articulated solutions to problems concerning children, most of them first involved the creation of institutions for housing girls. Why the different communities (such as those studied in this work) tended first to find solutions for girls rather than for boys? Was this influenced by the forms of education and training implemented? In the pages that follow we give possible answers, analyzing the events related to the establishment and maintenance of a school for housing boys in the center of the province of Buenos Aires. Through a qualitative approach, it is sought to reflect on the differentiated ways developed when trying to find solutions for both, boys and girls.

Keywords : School for housing children; Childhood; Trades; State; Private associations.
