Subtropical cattle regions base their production potentiality on tropical grasses on prairies where Chloris gayana Kunth (Grama Rhodes) represents a resource of great interest, especially with the development of improved grasses. The assessment of grass in different environments is made in order to highlight those that have a better behaviour in the different environments of a given region. The change in the sorting of grasses when changing environment indicates the presence of genotype x environment interaction and the absence of stability. Plasticity is the attribute which allows genotypes to adjust their productive capacity to the variation in environmental stimulus and thus remain dynamically stable. The objective of this paper was to determine the stability in the accumulation of forage from four diploid grasses and two Chloris Gayana tetraploids in four different environments. Results obtained by means of two methods:1) Test of Least Significant Difference (LSD) protected by Fisher and 2) Method of Relative Performance (RP) by Yen and Hamblin were compared. Statistical differences (p<0,05) were found among grasses and among regions, but there was no interaction with significant range changes. The LSD test and the RP method equally classified Katambora and Topcut grasses as stable. The RP method proved to be useful to classify some materials as stable and as having a high performance, thus avoiding the slant that environments of high performance introduce to the general average.
