Abstract

CHIAPPE, Carlos; VALENZUELA REBOLLEDO, América  and  CARMONA YOST, Javier. Dynamics of ethnicity and intra-ethnic fragmentation among contemporary Lickanantay communities (Atacama salt flat, Chili). Runa [online]. 2024, vol.45, n.1, pp.185-204.  Epub Feb 01, 2024. ISSN 1851-9628.  http://dx.doi.org/10.34096/runa.v45i1.12757.

Academic problematizations on identity are a key input to analyze the dynamics of ethnicity in the current Lickanantay sociopolitical field. Based on the above, we address through a case study the attempt of certain subgroups to dismember from their larger socio-political unit through actions that seek to obtain validation through dialogue between local and academic knowledge. The subgroup thus puts in tension the relations with the larger community of belonging, achieving, at least, improving its position within it.

Keywords : Chili; Atacama salt flat; Lickanantay communities; Ethnic identity; Intraethnic fragmentation.
