Abstract

LIZABE, Gladys. Celestina y el ajusticiamiento de Pármeno y Sempronio a la luz de la ley humana. Olivar [online]. 2023, vol.23, n.36, e131. ISSN 1852-4478.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.24215/18524478e131.

After the murder of Celestina, in a few hours her murderers are executed and end up "beheaded in the square" as "public malefactors, with proclamations that manifested their crime". In this framework, this research reflects on some aspects specifically linked to the beheading of Pármeno and Sempronio in light of human law administered by the city council and bailiff and executed by the executioner. As a reality installed in the imaginary and legal practices of the time, the death penalty for beheading was long-standing in Europe and the Iberian Peninsula; thus, in the disastrous end of Pármeno and Sempronio, Celestina challenged readers at the end of the 15th century to revive and review one of the cruelest and most unwanted real forms of dying.

Keywords : La Celestina; Pármeno and Sempronio; Beheading.
