Abstract
DELLEPIANE, Juan Matías and GUICHON, Francisco. Remote surveys of stone structures (hunting blinds) in the southwest area of the Strobel plateau (Santa Cruz, Argentina). Rev. Mus. Antropol. [online]. 2023, vol.16, n.3, pp.35-46. Epub Dec 28, 2023. ISSN 1852-060X. http://dx.doi.org/10.31048/1852.4826.v16.n2.41167.
The use of high-resolution satellite images as an input for archaeological investigations currently has a large number of applications. In the case of the central-western portion of Santa Cruz province, remote sensing stands out as a particularly useful tool in the analysis of stone structures (hunting blinds) located in high basaltic plateaus (over 700 masl). The objective of this article is to present the results obtained from satellite images remote surveys carried out in the southwestern portion of the Strobel plateau. More than 400 possible hunting blinds were identified in an area of about 470 km 2 , a value that stands out regionally due to its density. Although it is necessary to carry out field surveys to confirm these findings, the information obtained in this work allows us to incorporate this sector of the Strobel Plateau into the regional discussion and define a series of archaeological expectations.
