Abstract
PUGLISI, Rodolfo. Museum, patrimony and sacrality. Reflections from the Brocheriano Museum. Rev. Mus. Antropol. [online]. 2023, vol.16, n.3, pp.137-148. Epub Dec 28, 2023. ISSN 1852-060X. http://dx.doi.org/10.31048/1852.4826.v16.n2.41829.
The history of the Brocheriano Museum dates back to the last quarter of the 19th century when the priest Brochero (1840-1914) promoted the construction of a “House of Spiritual Exercises” in the Cordoba town that today bears his name. Inaugurated in 1877, this building was converted in 1957 into the “Brocheriano Museum”, being declared a National Historical Monument in 1974. Organized into different rooms and gardens, the museum treasures the corporal remains of Brochero, different personal and vintage objects, as well as various images and models that recall the life and work of this priest declared a saint by the Catholic Church in 2016. Visitors to this museum usually have profound numinous experiences, especially due to the fact of finding themselves inhabiting the same space that the saint inhabited in life, for being near the grave with his remains as well as objects with which he had direct contact. Dialogue with studies on patrimony, museums and the sacred, in this work we will analyze the Brocheriano Museum from a perspective focused on social anthropology, proposing in the conclusions some possible conceptual lines of confluence between these fields of study.
