Abstract
FLORES, Fabio Lucas; FERRERO, Laura and DE FRANCESCO, Claudio Germán. Ostracods from the estuarine zone of the Mar Chiquita coastal lagoon (Buenos Aires Province, Argentina). Rev. Mus. Argent. Cienc. Nat. [online]. 2021, vol.23, n.2, pp.179-190. ISSN 1853-0400. http://dx.doi.org/10.22179/revmacn.23.747.
The Mar Chiquita coastal lagoon (37°42´S; 57°25´O), declared a World Biosphere Reserve by the UNESCO in 1996, is situated in the southeastern Buenos Aires Province. The lagoon is divided into two well differentiated environments, an innermost shallow zone where the tidal effect is insignificant and an estuarine zone subjected to tidal action. The aim of the present study was to know the taxonomic composition of the living ostracods communities of the Mar Chiquita coastal lagoon. Four ostracod taxa were identified: Cyprideis salebrosa hartmanni, Callistocythere asperereticulata, Cytherura dimorphica, and Limnocythere cusminskyae. The coexistence of species was interpreted as evidence of their tolerance to wide variations in salinity due to tidal influences and fluctuations in the contribution of inland waters.
