Abstract

NALLAR, Durgan A.; ALAMO, Sofía B.; DRELICHMAN, Valeria  and  COLANTONIO, Facundo. Nuevos puzzles narrativos: relaciones entre transmedia y game design. Cuad. Cent. Estud. Diseñ. Comun., Ensayos [online]. 2022, n.110, pp.16-36.  Epub June 01, 2022. ISSN 1853-3523.  http://dx.doi.org/10.18682/cdc.vi110.4058.

Transmedia storytelling represents an undoubtedly exciting challenge that reconfigures the role of designers and producers. While it is still an emergent field for the audiovisual industry, the videogame industry has been developing this kind of narratives for decades. Thus, from the designer view-point, when we think of transmedia storytelling, we are not thinking about anything but a colossal narrative game.

For this reason, in this paper, we aim to answer the following questions: How are game design and transmedia storytelling related? What have transmedia narratives already learned from game-design and what can they learn from it in the future?

Our analysis aims to provide a methodology for the creation and development of new approaches. Our proposal is a workshop during which participants create narrative universes using game design strategies. This workshop was successfully taken by professionals and students, both at university and school.

Keywords : transmedia storytelling; game design; playful structure; storytelling.
