Abstract

LACOMBE, Eliana. The two Churches: Memories of Third World current emergence in Córdoba. Soc. relig. [online]. 2014, vol.24, n.41, pp.119-150. ISSN 1853-7081.

In this paper I propose an analysis from ethnographic and historical perspective about two events that appear in the memories of the people interviewed for my doctoral thesis work as foundational facts, as historical and personal breaks, from which formed the current Christian progressive in Córdoba. These events are known as Los tres reportajes (The three reports) (1964) and la huelga de Cristo Obrero (the Worker Christ´s strike) (1966). From the memoirs and life histories of some protagonists of these events attempt to account for the way in which a break is generated into the Catholic Church supported the construction of two opposing currents and Catholic traditions. Also, I describe how they built bridges and opened new opportunities for dialogue between religion and politics, Christians and Marxists, clergy and students. The case study also aims to contribute to the reflection about the manner in which memory and event are linked to make a contribution to memory studies and recent history.

Keywords : Third World; Church; dictatorship; memory; history.
