Abstract

BONSIGNORE, Mariano. The Historical Construction of Disciplinary Traditions in the Department of Geography of the Institute “Dr. Joaquín V. González” Buenos Aires city (1904-1993). Bol. estud. geogr. [online]. 2023, n.120, pp.21-42.  Epub Feb 26, 2024. ISSN 2525-1813.  http://dx.doi.org/10.48162/rev.40.030.

The creation of the first teachers training institute in Argentina was related to state intervention and its role in the construction of the nation and patriotic feelings. Along with the influence of the first foreign teachers, different approaches to teacher training and secondary education became prevailing. From the field of study of history of Geography and its teaching, I propose to analyze in this article the disciplinary traditions in the Geography Department of the Instituto Superior del Profesorado "Dr. Joaquín V. González'' during the period 1904-1993. I will also seek to identify those teachers who were the most influential, as well as the relationship of the teacher training institute with other geographical institutions. The methodology consisted of an analysis of different primary sources and semi-structured interviews with teachers who studied at the institute since the 1950s.

Keywords : History of Geography; disciplinary traditions; teacher training; Regional Geography; Geopolitics.
