Resumen
ARTABE, Analía E. et al. The paleoflora of cerro La Brea (Early Jurassic), Mendoza province, Argentina. Ameghiniana [online]. 2005, vol.42, n.2, pp.429-442. ISSN 1851-8044.
At Cerro La Brea, on the southern margin of Atuel river, Mendoza province, El Freno Formation is made up of more than 300 metres of siliciclastic sediments conforming an asymmetrical anticline. During data gathering of a detailed profile the existence of five plantiferous levels was determined; one of them corresponding to that identified by Ugarte in his doctoral thesis. In this contribution floral assemblage characterising each of the plantiferous levels is studied. In this unit different facies associations can be recognized, thus enabling us to interpret the whole as originated in a mixed-load fluvial system. Systematic revision made possible to recognize a floral assemblage for Cerro La Brea including 14 taxa: Equisetites sp., Marattia münsteri (Goeppert) Zeiller, Cladophlebis ugartei Herbst, Cladophlebis antarctica Nathorst in Halle, Cladophlebis oblonga Halle, Dictyophyllum atuelense Herbst, Archangelskya proto-loxsoma (Kurtz) Herbst, Elatocladus conferta (Oldham and Morris) Halle, Taeniopteris sp., cf. Rienitsia colliveri Herbst, Scleropteris vincei Herbst, Ptilophyllum acutifolium Morris, Otozamites hislopi (Oldham) Feistmantel and Williamsonia sp.
