Resumen
HECHEM, Jorge J. Cien años de modelos geológicos en la cuenca del golfo San Jorge. Rev. Asoc. Geol. Argent. [online]. 2015, vol.72, n.1, pp.1-11. ISSN 0004-4822.
The 1907 Comodoro Rivadavia oil discovery was not preceded by any geological studies. Following the discovery, structural and stratigraphic models were proposed, but without a systematic exploratory work. After the creation of YPF in 1922, geological exploration and developmental studies were organized, and the activity spread out to other areas of the basin, with the main focus on the Chubutian reservoirs. Exploring the continuity of major faults to the west led to important discoveries in the North and South flanks. The anticlinal model was applied in the central fold belt with poor results. In the 1950s, 2D seismic survey triggered structural models of normal faults and associated roll-over folds, and the greatest discoveries of the basin in the north and south flanks occurred. The implementation of new stratigraphic and combined trap models in the 1970s led to important discoveries in the fold belt. In the western sector, several structural and stratigraphic models for different objectives, besides the Chubutian, have been implemented. The offshore exploration, with models analogous to those of the north and south flanks, has had geological success but with little economic profit.
