ZUIANI, María Fernanda y BAVA, Amadeo Javier. Trichomycosis axillaris: a case report. Acta bioquím. clín. latinoam. [online]. 2007, vol.41, n.4, pp.559-562. ISSN 0325-2957.
The clinical and microbiological findings of a case with trichomycosis axillaris are presented. This case was accidentally diagnosed in a middle-class 17-year-old boy born in La Plata, with good hygienic habits. The patient consulted about some supposedly allergic lesions on the skin of the groin, and irregular concretions in the extrafollicular portion of the pubic hairs were accidentally detected. The microscopy of the pubic hairs revealed extrafollicular concretions composed of filamentous and coccoid bacteriae, which grew as colonies of Corynebacterium sp., unidentified at species level. Trichomycosis axillaris is an asymptomatic bacterial infection of axilla and groin hairs, rarely diagnosed from the microbiological point of view.
