CECI, Romina; ABERER, Jorgelina y MAZZIOTTA, Daniel. Quality assesment in human immunodeficiency virus serological diagnosis. Acta bioquím. clín. latinoam. [online]. 2009, vol.43, n.1, pp.53-56. ISSN 0325-2957.
The performance of the laboratories taking part in the EQAS (External Quality Assurance Scheme) HIV Diagnosis Subprogram was assessed throughout 9 (nine) surveys. The analysis was made on the basis of the qualitative result: Reactant, Undetermined, and Non-reactant; and dependent on the methods used: Enzymoimmunoanalysis (EIA) and Non-Enzymoimmunoanalysis (Non EIA). Better performance was observed in those laboratories using methods based on EIA if compared with those using non-EIA-there was a higher number of false negatives. Since external quality assurance provides tools that enable participants to take corrective steps, a change in the method chosen was observed after Survey No 2 when EIA-based methods were opted for.
