This article analyses two texts: the introduction of Ramón Contreras “Collection of Data and Documents referring to Missions as part of the Territory of the Province of Corrientes” (1877) and Mardoqueo Navarro’s report, “The National Territory of Missions” (1881), in order to understand and contrast each other arguments, according to their personal interests. The collection looks after the interests of the Province of Corrientes, in an attempt to build an argument that could prevent the loss of those territories for the province. Years later, in the context of the discussion on the federalization of the Misiones’ territory, the work of Navarro, which argued in favor of the Nation, was submitted and published. We consider that the focus on this object will allow us to make a first approach on the political and discursive historical dispute between Corrientes and the Nation regarding the territory that belonged to the old Jesuitic missions.
