The aim of this paper is to analyze the regionalist project of the historian Armando Raúl Bazán in a knot full of tensions and cultural re-configurations that took place in Catamarca since the middle of the 1940s. The period between the date of his arrival in Catamarca and the beginning of the 1960s, when he evidences a first systematization of his regionalist thought, is shaped by changes in the forms of intellectual sociability. This is the result of a slow but continuous professionalization of the spaces dedicated to the historiographic work in Catamarca, where the arrival of professors graduated in other provinces to occupy the teaching positions of the Instituto Nacional del Profesorado took an important role. It is at this conjuncture that Raúl Bazán participated in the publication of Árbol. Revista catamarqueña de cultura and, by the end of the decade, he published a first essay entitled Las bases historicas del regionalism cultural argentino. In its first section, the biographical trajectory of Bazán and his belonging to an intellectual group known as the ‘55 Generation are analyzed. It is within this network of relations and contacts with other intellectuals, grouped around the newspaper La Unión and the magazine Árbol, where Raúl Bazán would find the necessary supplies for the composition of his proposal, an aspect that will be analyzed in the last sections of this article.
