GARIBALDI, J.; STORTI, M.; BATTAGLIA, L. y D'ELIA, J.. Numerical simulations of the flow around a spinning projectile in subsonic regime. Lat. Am. appl. res. [online]. 2008, vol.38, n.3, pp.241-247. ISSN 0327-0793.
The unsteady flow around a 155 mm projectile governed by the Navier-Stokes (NS) equations is numerically solved with a Large Eddy Simulation (LES) scheme, together with the SubGrid Scale (SGS) solved by a Smagorinsky model and the van Driest near-wall damping. The computed results are obtained in the subsonic flow regime for a viscous and incompressible Newtonian fluid in order to determine the axial drag coefficient, and they are validated against experimental data. The problem was solved by a monolithic finite element code for parallel computing on a Beowulf cluster.
