DIAS-SILVA, Leonardo Henrique; SANTOS AMARAL, Andreza y TALAMONI, Sônia A. COMPARISON OF THE BAT ASSEMBLAGES OF A BOTANICAL GARDEN AND THE SURROUNDING NATIVE FOREST IN SOUTHEASTERN BRAZIL. Mastozool. neotrop. [online]. 2019, vol.26, n.2, pp.475-481. Epub 25-Jun-2019. ISSN 0327-9383.
The structure and composition of bat assemblages is mostly determined by features of the vegetation at local and landscape scales. We compared the bat assemblage present in a botanical garden with artificial lakes and exotic plant species to that of the surrounding native forest, which we expected to differ. Over a year of sampling revealed that both habitats possess a predominance of medium-sized frugivorous bats, but of different species. More insectivorous bats were captured in the garden. Despite limited differences in bat species composition, the structure of the two bat assemblages was noticeably different. These results indicate that bats respond differently to available habitats even on a small scale.
